Fun Games for Playful Kitties

Cat Games Cat Fishing Screen Capture

Screen capture from Cat Fishing 2.

Cinco discovered some really cool games last night and he really wanted to share his experience. It is amazing what you can find on the internet (we’re probably a little behind around here).  Friskies made a handful of games to play on your smartphone or tablet that are  just for cats! When you start the game colorful shapes swim, flutter, wiggle, and twitch across the screen. The object of the game is for cats to “catch” as many of the objects as they can by touching them on the screen.  The game will even keep score so your cat can try and beat their record.  All of the games are free to download at http://gamesforcats.com .

Note: Screen protectors are a good investment if you are going to use these games with your cat.

Back to Cinco

As usual,  he was assisting me with researching topics to put on Playful Kitty.  He’s a pretty good assistant; he keeps my lap warm and gives me massages from time to time. When I came across Games for Cats I thought I would download one for him on my phone and see what he thought of it.

At first I downloaded Cat Fishing 2 as this app had the highest rating. Once Cinco was on the floor and I got the game turned on, I placed the phone on the floor in front of him. He was immediately intrigued, though slightly confused that my phone had become so interesting. It didn’t take long for him to figure out how to play the game. He LOVED it! He pawed the screen, tried to bite the screen, moved the phone around along the ground, flipped the phone over a couple of times, and I had to rescue my phone as he tried to pick it up in his mouth and carry it away (to where, I’m not certain).  I’m sure this game would be even more fun on a tablet or something with a larger screen.

Can’t Forget Manna

Next I tried to get Manna involved. She is the more aggressive of the two cats so I thought she would really enjoy it.  She had been sleeping on the couch and placed the phone (game running) on the couch next to her.  Perhaps she was just sleepy, but the fish didn’t seem to interest her much. Cinco came running to the couch to play the game some more.

If she’s not gonna play, I will!

Then I decided to download one of the newer games – Happy Wings.  I figured that Manna may like the birds better and she did. She still didn’t really play the game, but she watched the screen very intently. Cinco loved this game as well. The only complaint I have about either game is that there is nothing in the programming that keeps the phone from going to sleep. The cats would be watching the game and all of the sudden the screen would go black. Make sure to adjust the timing on the power save option with your phone before playing!
